FreecoNet to offer HD Voice 04.03.2010
FreecoNet, as the first operator in Poland, clears the way for HD quality calls. This topic was highlighted on ‘VoIP Lunch 2010’, which took place on 24th February in Warsaw.
The introduction of HD Voice to FreecoNet users means better sound quality of their telephone calls. Soon it will also apply to FreecoNet additional services. "HD Voice uses broadband codecs (G.722), which sample voice audio 16,000 times per second and transmit frequencies from roughly 150Hz to 7kHz. Traditional telephony – based on the narrowband PSTN connection – samples voice audio 8,000 times per second and enables transmitting frequencies from 200Hz to 4kHz. Comparing the specifications of both systems, we can say that HD Voice delivers twice better sound quality. With the help of this technology one can perfectly recognize the voice of his caller, including difficult foreign accents, increasing the comfort of each call. The general impression while talking can be compared to a face-to-face conversation" - explains Jan Wyrwiński, CEO of FreecoNet SA.
The opportunity to call using HD Voice technology does not involve any additional fees for FreecoNet users. The only condition is to have an IP phone supporting G.722 on both ‘ends’. In case if one of the phones supports only narrowband codecs, the connection will be established in the quality appropriate to the lower standard. In order to help our users to select appropriate technological solutions, FreecoNet’s research laboratory tests new market equipment and provides its certification. Every product marked with HD Voice logotype assures that you can fully connect in HD. This type of products include Siemens Gigaset A580 IP phone, which is currently to get for a symbolic price of 1 PLN in FreecoNet. VoIP equipment, which supports HD Voice technology, is becoming more widely available on the market. Advanced IP phones are offered by Gigaset, AVM or Yealink
HD Voice is a fresh topic in Polish telephony. The introduction of this technology (on this year's CES trade fair in Las Vegas) in several countries, including Poland, has been announced by Orange quite recently. FreecoNet is a precursor of new sound quality standards for telephone calls in our country, but in a short time all telecommunications operators will certainly follow the same footsteps offering HD calls as a standard service for their subscribers. Because of the fact that the difference in sound is so clear, customer who will benefit from it once will certainly require the same quality from other operators. If you wish to compare the difference by yourself, we have prepared a specially created demo tracks at www.hdvoice.pl. You can also find there some more information about the HD Voice technology.
The introduction of HD Voice is only one of the few tools, thanks to which FreecoNet wants to revolutionize the telecommunications market in Poland. From the other news revealed last week during ‘VoIP Lunch 2010’, an agreement on the merger of FreecoNet and Tlenofon has been signed. This will help to create the largest Polish provider of Internet telephony.
